Понятно, «monere» = «мнил», см. «monitor». Хорошо, но что тогда «str»?

Полагаю, что в основе «страшить» - «monstrosity» - чудовищность. Меня страшит – замена «ш» - «s». МНСТРШТ – MNSTRST – monstrosity – производное слово – monstrum.
