Харпер полагает, что PIE корень *ni – низ. Поправлю – корень «нз»/ «нс» (мз, мс). Ср. «низ», «нос», «мыс», «anus» (лат), месяц (луна). Коррелирует с «вз» / «вс»
Слово «beneath» - это калька с русского «вниз» (внизу). ВНИЗ – замены «в» - «b» и «з» - «th». VNZ – BNTH – beneath.

Так что Нидерланды, это действительно «низкие земли». Netherlands, Nederland. НИЖЕ + ЛАН + «er» - носовой звук.
