Скромненько так наше «коло» расположилось. Вот только в нашем «коло» есть мотивация, в других – нет.

Возьмем, например, латинское «colus»:
colus m (genitive colī); second declension or colus m (genitive colūs); fourth declension

2. spinning, spun thread – прядение, вращение.

И где исходное слово?

В латыни есть слово «colo» - я стригу, обрезаю. Но, простите, это русское «корнаю». А уж никак не круг.

Слово «велосипед» - от «коло» - «hweol» - «wheel» + «пята» (ped). Отсюда же и «педаль».

cyclone – циклон, т.е. «коло» - круг. В переводе с латинского – вращающийся. Anticyclone – соответственно, «anti» - нет, т.е. не вращающийся, в данной конструкции – против, вращающийся против циклона. См. «cycle»
