Капитал (от лат. capitalis — главный, главное имущество, главная сумма) — совокупность имущества, используемого для получения прибыли Но, посмотрим: capital (adj.) early 13c., "of or pertaining to the head," from Old French capital, from Latin capitalis "of the head," hence "capital, chief, first," from caput (genitive capitis) "head" (see capitulum).
Meaning "principal" is early 15c. Of letters, "upper case," from late 14c. A capital crime (1520s) is one that affects the life or "head;" capital had a sense of "deadly, mortal" from late 14c. in English, a sense also found in Latin. The felt connection between "head" and "life, mortality" also existed in Old English: e.g. heafodgilt "deadly sin, capital offense," heafdes þolian "to forfeit life." Capital punishment was in Blackstone (1765) and classical Latin capitis poena.
capitulum (n.) used in various senses in English; Latin, literally "little head," diminutive of caput "head," also "leader, guide, chief person; summit; capital city; origin, source, spring," figuratively "life, physical life;" in writing "a division, paragraph;" of money, "the principal sum," from PIE *kaput- "head" (see head (n.)).
1826: TAILLE, a cut, division, share, share, an indenture; T theil; F. taille; It. taglia, from G. tiala; Swed. tœlja; Isl. telga; T. theilen; F. tailler; It taligare, to cut, separate, divide, which produced the English words Tell, Detail, Toll, Deal and Tally. Club, a meeting where the expence is devided, is from “cleave”; share, a portion, is from “share”, to cut, to devide; and deal from G. deila; διελϋν, to divide, to apportion TAILLAGE, TALLAGE, a share, a tax, a toll; from taille TALLY, from TAILLE; two sticks scored equally, any thing made to fit another. A piece of stick was rent down to the middle, so that the two parts would fit together again; and a notch being cut across both, the one served as a check to the other; and, when the half, with the debtor, corresponded with that of the creditor, the account was said to tally. Британская энциклопедия 1773 (том 3) TALLY, a piece of wood cut in two parts, whereon accounts were anciently kept, by means of notches; one part of the tally being kept by the debtor, and the other by the creditor
