Nicholas Johannes Piscator
FACE BIBLE

Some illustrations to the Piscator's Bible of the XVII century
Holland publisher and engraver Nicholas Johannes Piscator was born around 1586 in Amsterdam, died 19.06.1652 in the same place.
Among publications of Piscator there is a map of Muscovia (1631) and «Face Bible» («Theatrum biblicum», 1650, and other editions) with engravings, based in particular, on the drawings of the previous masters.
«Face Bible» in the second half of the 17th – beginning of 18th centuries was used in Russian and Ukraine engravings and wall paintings as a source of iconographic plots, and also served as a tutorial.
We used these engravings during the analysis of ancient Bibles, see our book "Biblical Russia", published on the web.
