TAILLAGE, TALLAGE, a share, a tax, a toll; from taille

TALLY, from TAILLE; two sticks scored equally, any thing made to fit another. A piece of stick was rent down to the middle, so that the two parts would fit together again; and a notch being cut across both, the one served as a check to the other; and, when the half, with the debtor, corresponded with that of the creditor, the account was said to tally.

Надеюсь всем прекрасно видно, что названия этих палочек, которые являлись подобием денег, ломались пополам, затем ровно состыковывались (одна часть у дебитора, другая у кредитора) происходит от русского слова «делить» (при замене «д» - «t»).
Рад, что моя идея произвести это слово от «делить» оказалась верной.
