There is no record of a town there previous to this, and the Celtic natives probably called it “lon dyn” – London – the marsh fort (я давно говорил, что Лондон – это «лянь» + «дон».

Avon; and that river itself used to be called “mor amhuinn”, the great stream, is shown by the name of the parish – Muiravonside.
MOR – болото + mh – мох. В результате – речка-вонючка, ежели из болота.

DREM, DRUM, or DRYMEN – a ridge (хребет) – просто «дремучий».
Edinburgh – in Gaelic – Dunedin. Нечто вроде Дом над рекой (дон). Речку давно засыпали, но North Bridge остался.

“The name of Scott”. In Cormac’s glossary the word is given as “Scuit”, and “scuite” is translated “a wanderer” in O’Reilly dicnionary. То есть, перевели, как бродяги, скитальцы. Буковки «t» - «f» почти неразличимы на письме.

Pre-Celtic: Iverian or Silurian. The early Irish historical legends were collected in 16 century… All through this book mention is made of a small, darkheared race of man… These have been identiied, more or less hypothetically, with long-skulled people whose remains are found in Great Britain and Western Europe… black-haired Iverians, known as “FRIBOLG” and ‘SILURES”, were the earlies inhabitants of this country of which any trace remains; that they were akin to the BASQUE population of our own day, and had the physical characteristics of the RIVER-DRIFT.
The first syllable of the name Ireland is a contracted form of the name IVER, EMER, EBER, or EIRE… Gaelic speech… EIRINN…, just as ALBAN the ancient name of Scotland, is the genitive case of ALBA.

Был в Шотландии, но в упор не понимаю, где они там «белизну» нашли. Если только зимой. Вообще, они бы определились, то у них Англия – Альбион, то Шотландия.

This name “EIRE”…, seems to have been specially applied to the people of Munster, whose capital appears in early Irish MSS. as TEMAIR ERAND, or TARA of the ERNA (of Iverians). In Welsh it appears as IWERDDON (так, а вам не кажется, что здесь попахивает тимуровщиной тамерланщиной и татарами)? Или просто "орда"?

Короче говоря, там еще много интересного, вот например (это из «протоязыка» по мнению автора) – “ar» значит «ploug», т.е. это наше «ор» и «Орать», т.е. «пахать»,"плужить", а еще он отмечает, что это обозначало и битву. Все правильно – «рать» - «войско», «ратники». Кстати, у Дьяченко упоминается и в смысле «резать». У Старчевского – «ратай» - воин, солдат, но и земледелец тоже. Так что уж не знаю, кого тут имееют в виду под именем «иверийцы». Может татарское «ИДЕЛЬ» переврали? «d» так похоже на «v», равно, как и на «b».

Not that Scots are supposed to be the first inhabitants of Ireland, that was very probably first planted from Great Britain; but the Scots are thought to be a colony of the ancient Scythians, who inhabited the north part of europe, and about the third century, venturing to sea in search of new habitations, fell upon Ireland; which being thinly inhabited, the natives either would not, or could not oppose their descent. It is probably they were first invited over Scotland by the Picts of North Britain, to assist them in their wars against their enemies of the South. But both Picts and Scots, or whatever other nations inhabited the north, we find they all went under the general name of “Caledonians”, for some time. As for the Attacotts, they seem to be the same original with Scots, and this the name only of the Scottish tribes.
