Until razed to the ground by bombing in World War II this macabre and eerie chapel, popularly known as the Chapel of Bones, was one of the Valletta attractions. Originally it was the chapel of the cemetery of the Sacra Infirmary, (the Hospital of the Order of St. John) and was erected by the Knight Giorgio Nibbia in 1612 but rebuilt in 1731.
Its interior was decorated with human skulls, bones and even with complete skeletons.
